The social media account of X @aboutmalang.com was suspended on Friday, January 31, 2025.
Friday afternoon, the admin posted news from an Amnesty International release entitled "Amnesty International: Indonesia highlights the continued intimidation and criminalization of freedom of expression".
The news quoted Amnesty's statement that the narrowing of the space for expression was widening not only against civilians.
They were intimidated when they criticized new government programs.
Government programs such as free nutritious meals have also been highlighted because of implementation restricts freedom of expression.
Amnesty also criticized freedom of expression in Indonesia which ended in legal intimidation, a worker in Jakarta who was sued for speaking out about injustice in the workplace.
After 3 hours of posting that information, account X @aboutmalang.com could not be activated and the admin received information like this:
“Your account sucks. After careful review, we have determined that your account violates X's rules. Your account is in permanent read-only mode, which means you cannot post or repost or like content. You will not be able to create a new account”.
The impact of this suspension that the admin cannot post news on social media accounts that have been upgraded to premium subscriptions.
