On 7 February, Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown was sentenced to two years in absentia for defaming the Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah.
She was charged with criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code stemming from claims made in Rewcastle-Brown's book, “The Sarawak Report - The Inside Story of the 1MDB Expose”, regarding the Sultanah's alleged involvement in the corruption scandal.
