Police colonel threatens to shoot TV reporter

Description

On 11 September 2023, a reporter for Amarin TV news station phoned a senior policeman to inquire about the investigation into his purported role in a recent murder of another police officer at the home of a local influential businessman in Nakhon Pathom province. The policeman, whom Amarin TV identified as a police colonel in Bangkok without naming him, angrily told the reporter to stop questioning him about the matter, otherwise the reporter may also be shot dead themselves. The audio clip of the phone interview was later aired by Amarin TV. When asked about the incident, a Deputy Police Commissioner suggested that the policeman in question might have been "under stress," and said the reporter is free to pursue criminal charge against him if they feel unsafe. No complaint is known to have been lodged so far.
