Description
Mey Chumnith, publisher of MCN TV online, and his reporter, Hun Kimsreng were arrested by Kampot authorities on 3 August 2022 for alleged extortion. Chamnan, the brother of Mey Chumnit, said that the arrest of these two journalists was related to a land case involving the police chiefs in Kampot province. The director of the Information Department of Kampot province, Ork Samnang confirmed this arrest, saying these two journalists were arrested for the alleged extortion. According to the verdict dated 1 November 2022, the Kampot provincial court sentenced both journalists to two years, but one year in prison and one year to be suspended.As of December 2022, they remain in prison.
