Journalists' Data Forced to be Erased

Description

Journalist for Tribun Lombok, Jimmy Sucipto was forced to delete news of allegations of extortion, traffic accident insurance arrangements at the Mataram Traffic Police Traffic Unit, on Friday, November 25, 2022.

The extortion report that he wrote was published on Thursday, November 24, 2022. Two hours after the report was published, the journalist was contacted by the Mataram Police and asked for the report to be taken down.

A day later, Friday 25 November 2022, journalists were summoned again to come to the Mataram Police to be asked to delete the news of the alleged extortion. Responding to the request, Jimmy said that it was the authority of the chief editor in his office. The journalist was also offered a sum of money to remove the report, but declined.

After AJI Mataram mediated with the Mataram Police, the intimidation to journalist no longer occurred.
