Journalist in Sumenep Were Beaten and Held at Gunpoint

Description

A journalist with the initials ER faced intimidation and violence while covering the transportation of fuel in Sumenep, East Java. ER became suspicious when he saw a three-wheeled motorcycle carrying a large amount of fuel out of a gas station and followed it to Kalianget harbor. Upon arriving, the journalist asked the security guard about the fuel and was told it belonged to the Navy. When ER tried to enter the port, he was blocked by the security guard who then called three individuals. One of them rebuked ER and physically assaulted him, while another hit his jaw and threatened him with a gun. ER was held captive, his wallet and cell phone were taken, and he was forced to sign a statement the next day under threat. The incident highlights the dangers journalists face while reporting on sensitive topics, and the need for protection and respect for press freedom.
