Description

A publisher of Srotop Yuvakvey Online News, has been summoned by the Oddar Meanchey Provincial Military Police after publishing a report alleging that provincial authorities had failed to crack down on illegal timber trafficking.

In a narrated video report, the journalist said that two trucks allegedly transporting timber were not stopped by authorities in Oddar Meanchey Province. Instead, the trucks were intercepted by authorities in Thmar Pouk District, Banteay Meanchey Province.

A summons letter dated 3 August 2026 ordered the journalist to appear before the military police on 6 August in connection with his 29 July report, which included photographs of provincial leaders and was posted on social media.

On 7 August, the journalist told CamboJA that he had not appeared for questioning as ordered. He said that on 10 August, he submitted a letter to the Ministry of Information seeking its intervention in the matter.

According to the journalist, the latest summons was the second issued by the military police. The first summons ordered him to appear for questioning on 30 July, but he said he was unable to do so because he was attending a workshop in Phnom Penh at the time.

The journalist said he was concerned about the situation and was considering whether to appear before the military police in response to the latest summons.
