Journalist in Kendari Slapped and Strangled, AJI Kendari Urges the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police to Trial the Perpetrators

Description

Journalist for Zonasultra.com named Sutarman, became a victim of abuse by a number of police, while covering a student demonstration against President Joko Widodo's term extension. The demonstration was held in the city of Kendari on Monday April 11, 2022.

Data collected by AJI Kendari states that, at that time Sutarman was covering a demonstration and recorded the apparatus beating one of the students using his cell phone. Then the police, seeing Sutarman's actions, approached the victim and committed an act of violence, by hitting and choking the victim's throat.

The police also confiscated Sutarman's phone, and deleted the video he had recorded.
Even Though at that time the victim had already shown the press card hanging around his neck, and explained that he was reporting. The victim has reported this act of violence to the Police. There has been no update from the police regarding the development of this case.
