Two journalists namely CNNIndonesia.com and 20Detik were intimidated when covering the shooting of Brigadier J, on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
The intimidation was carried out by three men, not far from the house of the Head of Propam Polri Division Inspector General Ferdy Sambo at the Duren Tiga Police Complex, South Jakarta, which was the location of the shooting of Brigadir J.
The cellphones of the two journalists were confiscated, then the recordings of their interviews, photos and videos were deleted. The two of them were also prohibited from reporting too far from Ferdy Sambo's residence.
According to the victim's statement, which was published by online media in Jakarta, the intimidation began when the two journalists interviewed the cleaning staff, Asep. Asep used to work at the Sambo residence complex.
The interview was conducted while walking around the housing complex, on Jalan Saguling, South Jakarta. The distance of the interview location is about 100 meters, from the police official's house. The exact location is on the other side of the Ferdy Sambo residence complex. The two were only separated by a closed wall and gate, and only a small door opened for foot access.
However, when the interview had not been five minutes, three men in black shirts suddenly came over to the victim. The third person, who had a well-built body and cropped hair, appeared from behind on a motorcycle and squeezed the victim. They showed no identification.
At that time the interview stopped, while two well-built men immediately seized all the journalists' cellphones. One other person communicated with Asep, the janitor. The journalist for CNNIndonesia.com had refused to have his cellphone stolen, and he also realized the purpose of the three men's arrival. However, all three were reluctant to answer journalists' questions.
The man then forcibly took the two journalists and examined their contents. A number of photos, videos and recordings of journalist interviews were immediately deleted. A number of documents that were deleted were the result of coverage of the police shooting case at Sambo's residence.
They also checked the contents of the two journalists' bags. One of them even banned journalists from going too far from Sambo's policies. "If you're still there (at Ferdy Sambo's house) it's fine. But if you come here it's already too far," said the well-built man.
