Journalist Assaulted After Documenting Deforestation in Stung Treng

On March 24, 2025, a journalist from Intri Plus News was physically assaulted in Stung Treng province by three men believed to be provincial officials. During the incident, the journalist’s smartphone was also destroyed.
The journalist stated that the attackers are siblings, one of whom is a former Stung Treng provincial police chief who has since been reassigned, although the journalist was unsure of his current position.
According to the journalist, he had received reports from local villagers about illegal deforestation in the Prey Lang community. At around 2:00 PM, while returning home after photographing the site, he was stopped by the three men. They reportedly asked, “Where are you from?” and demanded that he delete the photos. When he refused, one of the men struck him in the face, causing minor injuries, and destroyed his smartphone.
On March 26, 2025, the journalist filed a complaint with the district police. However, he was informed that someone had also filed a complaint against him. Police did not disclose who submitted the complaint or the nature of the allegations.
