Interview with Taiwan minister removed after complaint from Chinese Embassy

Description

On 12 November 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok published a public statement objecting to a Thai news outlet's published interview with Joseph Wu, the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of China (Taiwan), which is regarded by Beijing as its breakaway province. The embassy likened the interview to "an abuse of the freedom of press" and asks that "the relevent media could respect the territorial and sovereign integrity of China, earnestly correct the mistakes, and prevent actions that hurt the Chinese people’s sentiments from happening again." While the statement did not identify any news agency by name, it was released a week after the Thai public broadcaster, ThaiPBS, aired an interview with minister Wu on its channel. Following the embassy's statement, ThaiPBS quickly removed the interview in question without any explanation, raising concerns over possible self-censorship or external influence.
