In his January 4 column, Presidential Task Force on Media Security head Paul Gutierrez said in an interview that United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression Irene Khan was keen to learn of the plight of Frenchie Mae Cumpio, “who is currently detained at the Palo Provincial Jail for her active role in the local terrorist groups of the communists.”
Cumpio is a female community journalist in Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. She has been detained since 2020 on trumped up charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
