Election Commission falsely accuses a news agency of spreading fake news
Description
On 14 May 2023, the Election Commission of Thailand released a statement accusing a news agency called The Matter of spreading false information against the commission through one of its videos on TikTok, which claimed that the commission might try to rig the 14 May general elections. The commission rejected the allegation and warned that his remarks may be prosecutable under the Computer Crime Acts, which bans dissemination of “false information” on the internet. However, The Matter soon protested that the video cited by the Election Commission was not produced or endorsed by the news agency and demanded an apology. The commission later apologized and updated its post.
