A journalist for ntbsatu.com named Mugni Ilma was intimidated and summoned as a witness on Friday, November 25, 2022, for a report he wrote about extortion.
Mugni wrote a report about allegations of illegal fees for dealing with traffic accident insurance at the Mataram Traffic Police Traffic Unit.
The news was published on the ntbsatu.com website with the title "Accident Victims Allegedly Collected Millions of Rupiah, This is the Kapolresta Mataram's Response" on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
The news contains a chronology of the extortion incident, along with confirmation from the victim and the Mataram Police Chief. On Wednesday, 23 November 2022, Mugni was asked to withdraw the news by an individual who came directly to his house.
Subsequently, Mugni was contacted by someone from the Division of Professionalism and Security of the Indonesian National Police Polda West Nusa Tenggara, who said he wanted to request an interview with the case.
Mugni offered to meet at the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police headquarters, but the party who claimed to be a member of the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Command, insisted on meeting outside the office.
Next, Mugni was directed to meet a West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police chief named Aris.
The next day, on November 24 2022, Mugni came to the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Paminal room, although he did not know the reason for the summons. That day, Mugni asked for his statement regarding the report he had written, for the Examination File.
At that time, Mugni refused on the grounds that he was not a victim of extortion as stated in the news. However, Paminal members continued to submit subpoenas for alleged extortion in the form of a BAP. But Mugni refused while explaining that if there was a dispute over reporting, then it would be reported through the chief editor.
Until finally, Mugni was summoned by the Head of Division of Professionalism and Security of the Indonesian National Police West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday 25 November 2022.
