Journalist for Malut Post daily newspaper journalist Fadli Kayoa experienced violence in front of the North Maluku Golkar Party Regional Representative Council (DPD) office, on Monday 22 April 2024.
That day, around 5.30 in the afternoon, journalist were present at the office to interview and confirm with the Chairman of the Golkar Party DPD, Arifin Djafar.
At that office, he met driver Arifin Djafar, Rio Badilla.
The journalist then introduced himself from the Maluku Post who intended to confirm and interview with Arifin.
But the driver Rio Badilla answered to journalist, that it was already afternoon.
"It's already afternoon, I want to go home. If time to go home like this, don't stop me. Don't get hit," said Rio.
Rio is also temporary employee at the Maluku City Government.
The journalist explained that Arifin, who is also deputy chairman of the Ternate city Regional People's Representative Assembly, was very difficult to contact by telephone for confirmation.
So that journalist asking to be able to do an interview, even if it was only for 10 minutes.
However, the driver answered rudely, "There's no interview, I want to go home. You'll get hit later," said Rio.
The journalist then asked for time to meet Arifin, although the driver still asked the journalist to go home and threaten to beat him, if he continued conducting the interview.
Because he felt threatened and would be intimidated, Fadli then took out his cellphone and took a photo of Rio.
Rio was emotional because he was photographed. Rio then approached and pushed the journalist's body, and hit the journalist's body on the back of the neck.
Fadli said the driver had obstructed his duties in conducting an interview. Rio became increasingly emotional and pushed Fadli's body again, then threw another punch. Fadli then escape and contact AJI Ternate.
