Covering Demonstration, Journalist Attacked by Police

Journalist for Narasi Juan Robin and his cameraman were attacked while covering a demonstration at the House of Representatives building, on Thursday, August 22 2024.

In the evening, the police pushed back the protesters who were still standing in front of the DPR/MPR building, Jakarta. Juan and his cameraman moved closer to the back of the police line, to make it safer to capture images in the area.

At around 19.20 p.m, while journalists recording images near the police who had formed a barricade, the cameraman was pulled and asked to get off the sidewalk and then asked to get down. After that, he was pulled and then pushed again.

Juan and his cameraman were asked to continue walking with the protesters. At that time, the police hurled curse words at Juan and his team. They were also pushed hard using police shields. This caused Juan and his partner to fall near a trash can.
