KompasTV and Kompas.com have accepted two claims for a YouTube Copyright sued by a YouTube's content creator who is partner of the Indonesia China Fast Train Ltd (Indonesian: PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China). This was conveyed by the chief editor of Kompas TV, Rosianna Silalahi on Wednesday, 9 May 2023.
According to Rosi, news of videos that have been hit by YouTube's Copyright Strikes have an impact on demonetization and difficulties in uploading KompasTV videos, so that the media are required to pay their claims. If get Copyright Strikes on YouTube up to three times, YouTube platform will close the channel and delete all video news.
The demands came after the media outlets published news about the swelling debt of Indonesia China Fast Train which up to IDR 8.5 trillion.
All news visuals are taken from the Official YouTube Channel of Indonesia China Fast Trains Ltd. However, their YouTuber (content creator) through his lawyer, filed a YouTube Copyright Strike and demand KompasTV to pay copyright claims for all the requested videos which the total claims will reach IDR 1.3 billion.
On the other hand, KompasTV have used the same video content as the materials to create news related with the progress of this Fast Trains and published at the G20 event in November 2022 where there was not questionable action at that time.
The Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Indonesia and the Press Legal Aids Institute consider the YouTube Copyright Strike that experienced by KompasTV and Kompas.com as an attempt to silence media or press community. The visual and video content that has been produced is the information relating to the public interest and must be known by the public.
The Indonesia China Fast Train Ltd is a joint venture between a consortium of BUMN (state-owned enterprise of Indonesia) through Pilar Sinergi BUMN Indonesia Ltd and a consortium of Chinese railway companies through Beijing Yawan HSR Co.Ltd.
